Girls on the Run Fun

This past weekend a few months of coaching for Girls on the Run was put to the test as the girls ran their 5k race. Watching them cross the finish line and seeing the smile on their faces as medals were placed around their necks was one of the most rewarding experiences.  Before I get to the race though I thought I would share a little bit about the program and coaching experience. I first heard about Girls on the Run from reading a post from one of my favorite bloggers, Julie of PB Fingers who was a coach for it last year.  As a lover of running I immediately looked up if the organization was present in my area (Albany, NY).  When I found out there were several schools hosting the program I knew I had to sign up as a coach.  Read more about the program purpose here. Everything’s Bigger in Texas

This past weekend Drew and I had a fun mini vacation in Fort Worth, Texas.  We went down for a quick trip to see Drew’s aunt and uncle.  I have only been to Houston before so it was great to explore another part of Texas.  The weekend was full of good company, eating, drinking and working out.  It went by way too quickly and being back in the “real world” today is kind of rough. Post Workout Smoothies

Nothing tastes better after a hot, sweaty workout than a cold smoothie.  I love to pack mine with fruit, almond milk and protein powder so I stay full for long and feel satisfied after a tough workout. My favorite protein powder is Vega.  I like that it is dairy and sugar free- I’m not allergic or anything but I notice my face breaks out if I have too much.  And it is made with clean ingredients.  My favorite are the Proteins and Greens in Coconut Almond and the Sports Protein in Mocha. Here are two of my favorite, go-to smoothies: Mocha Banana 1 1/2 frozen bananas 1 scoop Mocha Vega Sport Protein 1- 1 1/2 cups unsweetened almond milk 1 tablespoon cacao nibs optional: shot of espresso Throw everything today and blend! Add extra milk if necessary. Tropical Smoothie 1 cup of tropical fruit mix 1/2-3/4 cup of OJ 1/2 […]
